Every September for the past five years I have photographed juvenile Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds as they feast on the flowers of Longfellow Gardens in Minneapolis, Minnesota.During a two week period I start and end each day by capturing them feeding, flying, perching, and preening on their layover as they migrate southward.Having taken the time to observe their patterns and personalities I am able to compose my images by predicting and preparing for their arrival. The beautiful blooms of the gardens provide an every changing kaleidoscope of colors for the backdrops of my hummingbird portraits.Like mixing pigments on a pallet, I use my camera and lens to blend the colors of the foliage on my canvases. To help me achieve my artistic vision I use the computer to better convey the magical moments by highlighting the captivating colors of nature.Through my photos I hope to share the magical feeling I get by being in their presence.
